DEATH HERE FROM HEAT PROSTRATION
Death Claimed Daniel Boatwright Last Wednesday. The First Death Here from Heat Prostration
The first death from heat prostration in Stanberry last Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of Daniel Boatwright, 77-year-old resident. Mr. Boatwright became ill from the heat last Tuesday night and last Wednesday morning his condition was more serious.
He remained in a serious condition throughout the day and death came to relive his suffering at 3:30 o'clock last Wednesday afternoon. He died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Florance Gage.
The following obituary has been furnished this office:
Daniel Boatwright was born on Feb. 14, 1857 near the Hall schoolhouse and departed this life at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Florance Gage, on August 8, 1934, at the age of 77 years, five months and 24 days.
In the year of 1879 he was married to Delphia Jennings and to this union one son was born. In his early life he was converted and became a member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by the one son, Charles, of Cameron, Mo. He also took three grandchildren into his home and loved and cared for them as his own. They were Mrs. Sadie Miller and Mrs. Florance Gage of Stanberry and Mrs. Grace O'Bannon of Waverly, Kansas.
There were also nine other grandchildren; one brother, Samuel Boatwright of Stanberry; one sister, Mrs. Anise Stevens of Centrailia, Wash; three half-sisters, Lola and Bessie Boatwright and Lona Geer, of St Joseph; besides a host of other relatives and friends.
"Uncle Dan," as he was familiarly known, always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all, but most of all by the loved ones at home.
Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Ridge Church, three miles south of Enyart last Friday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Frank Groom. Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery. The funeral was in charge of the Pennington Undertaking Company.

Death: The following letter tells of the fight at Angeles, Philippine Islands, in which Edwin S. Boatright, the Gentry county soldier boy, met his death. The letter was this week handed to us by Mrs. T.M. Stevens of this place, who was a sister of the dead soldier.

Dear sir;
Your favor of Aug. 28 addressed to Capt. D.F. Angium, Twelfth infantry, has been referred to me for an answer, and I regret to state that the soldier to whom you make reference in your letter as having been killed in a recent battle was your son, Edwin S. Boatright. This fact is established by an entry in the Company description book, which gives his birth place as Alanthus Grove, Missouri. The same address was found engraved in a name plate which he carried attached to his belt at the time of his death. He enlisted at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, Aug. 11, 1898, having been discharged from Company C, 12th infantry, July 7, 1898, after five years service. As you state in your letter, he was a Company musician, having been appointed as such Dec. 24, 1898.
Your son's untimely and much-to-be regretted death occurred at about noon on the 16th of August, during the 12th infantry's capture of Angles, P.I. Our company occupied one of the most advanced positions on the firing line, and Musician Boatright especially distinguished himself in the engagement by the cool and fearless manner in which he performed his duties under heavy fire from the enemy. At the decisive moment of the battle he picked up a prostrated comrade's rifle and ammunition and voluntarily joined in the charge on the enemy's trenches, within a short distance of them he was struck down by a bullet which penetrated his body.
His death was instantaneous (?) and painless. His remains were brought to Manila, P.I. and there interred with military honors by Chaplin C.C. Pierce, U.S. Army.
This sad occurrence cast a gloom over our victory and left a vacancy amongst our men that will be hard to fill. For not only in his own company but throughout the regiment was your son known as a gallant and faithful soldier, exceptionally devoted to his duty, and his life, as well as his death, set an example worthy to be emulated by an soldier. His officers and comrades hereby extend their heartfelt sympathies to you and his other relatives.
Musician Boatright's effects are at present stored at Manila, P.I. and if you desire to claim them you can do so by writing to the Commanding Officer Company C, 12th Infantry, Manila, P.I. This should be done at an early date, as the Army Regulation direct that a deceased soldier's unclaimed effects be sold 30 days from the date of his death. In compliance with the wished expressed by the deceased a few days before his death, a couple of trinkets will be forwarded as soon as access can be had to them--to a lady friend of his, to whom it is understood he was to be married, but whose name and address are at present unknown.

His mother died when he was 4 weeks old. He was adopted into a family named Blackwell and taken to Illinois. He returned to Gentry County, Missouri and went to school at Hugginsville. GALLUP — Services for Catherine W. Boatwright, 87, will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 20 at Rollie Mortuary-Palm Chapel. Pastor Gene Turk will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Boatwright died March 13 in Los Angeles, Calif. She was born Dec. 31, 1913 in Gallup.
Survivors include her daughters, Cheri Katz of Venice, Calif. and Gloria Kay Neiman of Santa Monica, Calif.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Boatwright was preceded in death by husband, Robert Hayes Boatwright; parents, John and Lena Meagher, son, Robert John Boatwright and sisters, Gloria Milosevich and Ethel Stock.
Pallbearers will be Criag Boatwright, Frank Chavez, Joe Martinelli, Paul McCollum, John Meagher and Joe Milosevich.
