Funeral services For Mrs. Josephine B. Durden Held Wed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine B. Durden, 89, who died at her home near Register, December 19th after a few weeks illness were held Wednesday at the Lake Primitive Baptist Church with Eld. J. Walter Hendricks of Savannah officiating assisted by Eld. Henry Waters of Statesboro. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hooks Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
She was born in Emanuel County, the daughter of the late Daniel and Eady Bryant Boatwright. Mrs. Durden was a member of the Lake Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sons, D. H. Durden and J. D. Durden both of Miami, Fla., E. L. Durden of Savannah and W. O. Durden of Pulaski; five daughters, Mrs. G. B. Mercer, Metter, Mrs. J. O. Allmond, Pulaski, Mrs. F. E. Brown, Register, Mrs. L. Oliver and Mrs. Earl Hendrix of Savannah; thirty-five grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Swainsboro Editor Dies At Hospital
William E. Boatwright Succumbs to Long Illness
Funeral is Today
William E. Boatright, editor of The Swainsboro (GA) Forest Blade, and one of Georgia’s best known newspaper publishers; died early yesterday morning at the University hospital after a months’ illness. He was 68 years old.
The remains were conveyed to Swainsboro for burial and it was later learned that the funeral services will be held this morning at 11 o’clock in the Swainsboro Baptist church.
Mr. Boatright began newspaper work in Swainsboro 50 years ago, and was prominent in civic and other activities.
He is survived by a son, D. D. Boatright, associate editor of The Forest Blade; and three daughters, Mrs. H. M. Flanders, Soperton, Ga.; Mrs. O. P. Sasser, Augusta, and Mrs. W. R. Owens, Marion, S.C.

William E. Boatright Passes Away
Was Editor and Publisher of This Paper for Many Years
William E. Boatright is dead. He was connected with printing and newspaper work practically all his life. He at one time represented Emanuel County, as one of its Representatives in the Georgia General Assembly. At the time of his death he was one of the outstanding editors of the weekly press of Georgia. He was a man who always stood true to his convictions, and was a moulder of public opinion. In his political opinions he always stood for and advocated what he considered for the best interests of his community and his State, regardless of what others thought. He fought, first and all the time, for the right, asking no quarters and giving none. He was keen of intellect, and his weekly paragraphs and editorials were freely quoted by the press of Georgia.
In the passing of William E. Boatright, his community loses an upright and outstanding citizen; the press of the State one of its capable and most esteemed editors; his associates a most true and valued friend; and his family a most devoted father. His purse strings were loose, and his hands ever open to those in distress. His rule was never to turn down any one hungry, regardless of where he came from, or what was the cause of his hunger.
William E. Boatright died August 30th, 1935, after a lingering illness of many years standing, but continued his editorial and publishing work even upon his bed in his last sickness, to almost the very end of his life. His wife having died several years ago, he is survived by four children, three daughters and a son, to mourn his loss, realizing that one who loved them better than life itself, is gone.

Swainsboro and Emanuel County have lost a strong figure in the passing of W. E. Boatright, editor of the Swainsboro (GA) Forest Blade. He died on Friday after a wracking illness of many months. He showed his courage and stamina by the manner in which he clung to his editorial duties and responsibilities during a long period of illness. A less courageous man would have surrendered long before he did.
Mr. Boatright was a man of pronounced influence in Emanuel County. His editorial direction of the Forest Blade was marked by courage and fortitude. He was not vicious in his editorial utterances, but he was firm and outspoken for any cause he espoused. He did not “bend the pregnant hinges of the knee.” To the contrary, he maintained an independence of thought and expression that placed him easily among the outstanding editors in country journalism in Georgia.
That Mr. Boatright held the confidence and esteem of the people of his county was evidenced by the complimentary vote given him when he offered for a seat in the House of Representatives. As the gentleman from Emanuel, he gave fine service to his state and to his Emanuel county constituents. There was never any doubt, editorially or in the legislative hall, as to where this editor-legislator stood upon matters of home interests or state-wide importance.
Swainsboro and Emanuel county have surrendered a man of capacity, ability and courage in the passing of this public servant. — Savannah Press.

Swainsboro Woman, Wife of Editor, Succumbs Suddenly
Swainsboro, Ga., July 31 — Mrs. W. E. Boatright died at her home here tonight at 9:45 o’clock. She had been in bad health for some time, but the end came suddenly, before medical aid could be called. Mrs. Boatright is the wife of W. E. Boatright, who is editor of the Forest-Blade, and a member of the present House of Representatives.

In last week’s issue of this paper, there was a brief notice of the death, on Monday, July 31st, of Mrs. W. E. Boatright, wife of the editor of the Forest-Blade.
All over Georgia this announcement will be read with deep regret by those who knew Mrs. Boatright as the general proprietress of the old family Hotel, once known as the Rountree House and later designated as the Boatright House.
To the traveling men who made this Headquarters, she was a true friend interested in all that concerned them and making a home-like atmosphere which they truly appreciated.
After this hotel was burned Mrs. Boatright continued to be sought in her private home by those who remembered her solicitous care, but for several years her failing health has prevented activities along this line and she has led a quiet life with her devoted husband and children constantly with her.
Mr. Boatright, who is serving his second year as Emanuel County’s Representative, spends every week-end with his family here and it was unfortunate in deed that her sudden death occurred while he was in Atlanta.
Mrs. Boatright is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Horace M. Flanders, of Soperton, Mrs. O. P. Sasser, of Augusta, Mrs. Gordon Kingery, of Summit, and one son, Mr. Douglas D. Boatright, Business Manager of the Forest-Blade, and four grandchildren, Horace M. Flanders, Jr., Vivian Flanders, Georgia-Anita Flanders and John Willie Kingery. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. John S. Kemp, of Summit and three sisters, Mrs. Charley Wallrer, of Summit, Mrs. Will Scarboro, of Dublin, and Mrs. Tom Whitfield of Wadley, and one brother, Mr. Lee Kemp, of Midville.
Mrs. Boatright was fifty-two years of age and had been married thirty-one years, having lived most of that time in Swainsboro. Her funeral was held in the Baptist Church, Rev. J. A. Reiser conducting the service, and interment in the city cemetery.

Porter, Ga. - Frank R. Boatright, 63, Porter merchant for several years, died in Swainsboro, Ga. yesterday after an illness of three weeks.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Hawhammoch, 5 miles east of Swainsboro, Rev. Baker officiating.
