William Harold Boatright Gravestone

William Harold Boatright died Oct. 16, 2006, at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas, at the age of 83.

He will be interred at Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells in a Masonic graveside ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons. He will be available for viewing at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells.

William, known as ”Boaty” by all of his friends and family, graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1941. He attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville and the University of Texas at Austin, and served two years in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Norton Sound in the Pacific Theatre. Boaty worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 34 years and is a nationally recognized pioneer of aviation. He retired in 1980 as chief of the Flight Service Station branch of that agency.

He and his wife, Norma, have resided in San Antonio since his retirement, where they were close to their beloved children and grandchildren. Boaty”s great passions were his family, fishing and sports of any kind, especially football. An avid fan of the Texas Longhorns, he was able to see a son and grandson graduate from that university.

Boaty enjoyed an active and full life, which included a lot of love and laughter, and was blessed with good health until the end when his heart gave out on him. He was greatly loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma Joyce Boatright; three sons and their spouses, Randall and Janet Boatright, Russell and Catherine Boatright and Rory and Hollis Boatright; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.

Notes for EARL PADGETT BOATRIGHT:

Earl Padgett and Rebecca Margaret Scogin Boatright Gravestone

Earl Boatright, Jr, 84, of Pleasanton, Texas, moved into a Heavenly mansion with his wife on February 21, 2011. He was born on September 15, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas to Myrtle King Boatright Burke and Earl Boatright, Sr. He was an only child. He grew up in and around Pleasanton and while in the fourth grade met his future wife, Margaret Scogin. Earl served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and in later years would share his memories of that time with children and grandchildren by writing a book.

He earned an Honorable Discharg from the Army in January 1947. He married Rebecca Margaret Scogin on March 20, 1949 in San Antonio. In 1961, he moved his family to Pleasanton and lived there until his death. Earl worked as an aircraft mechanic for 32 years at Kelly Air Force Base and retired in March 1976. In 1977 he signed on as "Maintenance Man" with the Housing Authority in Pleasanton where his wife Margaret served as Director. He really enjoyed keeping the lawns neat - and meeting and helping the elderly residents. It was one of the few years where Mom could truly "boss" daddy and get away with it. Earl was one of those men who could do just about anything - from fixing plumbing or electrical problems to working on his cars. He was one who believed if you wanted something done right, then you did it yourself. He loved to fish with his wife and family - wade fishing at the coast catching trout and redfish - or standing on the bank of a stock tank in South Texas catching bass and catfish. Daddy loved spending time with his family and loved hearing about Ryan's sports events and watching his great granddaughters put on shows, singing and dancing, for him.

Earl is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Cyndi Boatright of California, son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Janice Boatright of Helotes, and his daughter, Lynda Grimm of San Antonio; grandchildren, Brandon and Mylinda Murray of Austin, Becky and Todd Sparrow of San Antonio, Dan Grimm of San Marcos, David (D.J.) and Tiffany Murray of San Antonio, Ryan Boatright of Helotes, and Shana West of Pleasanton; great grandchildren, Macey, Megan and Madi Murray, Adelyn, Cooper and Corinne Sparrow, Taylor Grimm, and Jacob West, as well as 4 brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased in death by Margaret, his beloved wife of 56 years and his son-in-law, Mark (Red) Grimm. We will miss Daddy a lot, but are comforted by the fact that he and Mom are together again.

Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 West Oaklawn Road, Pleasanton from 2:00PM - 8:00PM on Thursday, February 24, 2011. The family will receive friends between the hours of 4:00PM and 7:00PM on Thursday evening. The funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Hurley Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet, Texas.
